Volunteer coaches are the backbone of NORDC’s athletic programs, which include baseball, basketball, cheerleading, flag football, football, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball. While volunteer applications are accepted year-round, NORDC is currently recruiting for the boys and girls basketball season, which begins Jan. 11 and continues through Feb. 27. In addition to teaching the rules and fundamentals of the game, coaches are positive role models who encourage good sportsmanship, character, discipline and teamwork.

All volunteer applicants must submit and clear a background check and complete Darkness to Light training. NORDC provides opportunities for clinics and training specific to each sport. For more info, visit www.nordc.org/volunteer.

‘THE HUNGER GAMES’: NORDC’s Movies in the Park series continues Friday, Sept. 18, with “The Hunger Games” at Lemann Playground, 628 N. Claiborne Ave. The series of family-friendly, free outdoor movies at NORDC playgrounds runs through Nov. 21. For the full schedule, visit www.nordc.org.
