The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office announced that it has arrested two people for shooting at an unmarked JPSO vehicle with a laser-sighted handgun on Sept. 1.

JPSO will release further information about the arrests on Tuesday.

The gunfire pierced the windshield and struck the driver’s seat a moment after one of the officers moved to get out of the vehicle. The second shot struck the driver’s-side door as the three officers got out of the vehicle and returned fire, JPSO spokesman Col. John Fortunato said Wednesday.

The gunman escaped on foot.
