Two men including a bystander who witnesses said was working on his truck were shot about 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 2900 block of Banks Street.

Neighbor Neil Mitchell said he was inside his house when he heard about seven rounds fired. When he went outside to investigate, he found his neighbor, who had been fixing his truck’s taillight, lying on the ground with a wound to the leg.

The other victim, who was shot about a half-block away, appeared to be more seriously wounded. Mitchell saw a puddle of blood around him and believed he was the target of the shooting.

Mitchell said he saw two men fleeing in different directions. He said police responded quickly to the scene.

NOPD spokesman Garry Flot said both victims were in stable condition at a hospital. He said police were questioning two men in connection with the double shooting.
