A shooting near Iggy’s bar in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans left a 40-year-old man dead Saturday night, police said.

At about 11:50 p.m. police responded to calls of shots being fired in the 1900 block of North Rampart Street, according to New Orleans police officer Garry Flot.

Upon their arrival, police discovered a man who had been shot several times, lying in the street, Flot said. He died on the scene.

Police have classified the incident as a homicide by shooting.

The name of the man killed was not released Sunday morning because his family members had not yet been notified, Orleans Parish Coroner’s chief investigator John Gagliano said.

The investigation continued Sunday, police said.
