Now that school has begun, the New Orleans Public Library is offering homework help at two library locations. The Homework Clinic at the East New Orleans Regional Library, 5641 Read Blvd., is open to students of all ages from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Thursday. The Homework Clinic provides homework help, project research assistance and more.
Teens looking for homework assistance can attend the Young Adult Homework Club beginning at 3 p.m. every Wednesday at the Algiers Regional Library, 3014 Holiday Drive. Teens can receive homework and research assistance, or just come for a good place to study.
FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY: Richard Sexton will be the featured guest at this month’s Author Night at Nix program at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Nix Library, 1401 S. Carrollton Ave. Sexton is a fine art and media photographer whose work has been published and exhibited worldwide. He will discuss his most recent book, “Creole World,” as well as other previously published titles including a monograph, “Terra Incognita: Photographs of America’s Third Coast,” and the best-selling book “New Orleans Elegance and Decadence.” In addition to discussing his books, Sexton will present a slide show of his work.
ALGIERS POINT HISTORY: Malinda Blevins, of The Historic New Orleans Collection, will present an informative presentation on the extensive research she has done on the Verret family of Algiers from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 19, at the Algiers Regional Library, 3014 Holiday Drive. Blevins will give a brief history of the Verret family and their life in The Point, as well as share portraits of various Verret family members. She will illustrate what The Point was like at various times in history using maps from The Historic New Orleans Collection.
