If you like to bowl and would like to help a good cause, head over to Harahan this weekend for a special fundraiser sponsored by the Lakeside Kiwanis Club of Metairie.
The club’s fundraiser is from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Colonial Bowling Center, 6601 Jefferson Highway, Harahan. The cost is $25 per bowler and includes rental of shoes, food tickets, door prizes and two games of bowling.
All proceeds will go toward the community service projects of the club.

‘Aladdin Jr.’ opens in Rivertown
The Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts, 325 Minor St., Kenner, will present the musical “Aladdin Jr.” on Aug. 23 and Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m., and Aug. 25 at 2 p.m.
The show is directed by Ricky Graham.

Leah Chase featured at special event
New Orleans chef Leah Chase will be the guest of Liz Williams, the president of the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie.
Williams will interview Chase, the longtime proprietor of Dookie Chase Restaurant in New Orleans.
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
Free legal help
The city of Kenner’s department of community development, the Hispanic Resource Center and the law firm of Ferriol, Perez and Gordon will present a pro bono clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the center, 4312 Florida Ave., Kenner.
Attorneys will offer free legal advice on divorces, child in need of care (abuse/neglect), adoptions, wills, successions, lease disputes, bankruptcy, contractor fraud, BP claims, legal problems affecting the elderly or the disabled, foreclosure and consumer protection.

Poetry meeting at Old Metairie Library
There will be a poetry meeting of the Greater New Orleans Fleur de Lys Chapter of the Louisiana State Poetry Society from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Old Metairie Library, 2350 Metairie Road. The meeting will consist of reading and discussing poetry. All poetry lovers are welcome and all poets are welcome to come and share their poetry. Admission is free.
Blood donors needed
The Blood Center is holding a blood donation drive today through Saturday at its centers throughout the metro area.
And just in time for the New Orleans Saints football season, all donors will receive a special limited edition black and gold T-shirt.
In East Jefferson, the donor center is at 3400 16th St., Metairie. Hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Donors must be in good health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old.

Local church to hold concert and cookout
St. Matthew United Methodist Church will hold a barbecue and concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the church, 6017 Camphor St., Metairie.

Local resident attends summit
Brandeis University’s Global Youth Summit on the future of medicine recently selected Old Metairie resident Paul “Fritz” Newburger to represent Brother Martin High School and the state of Louisiana.
Newburger was one of 175 delegates from around the country selected for the inaugural program.
Delegates to the event participated in experimental learning programs and lectures and were given an opportunity to meet leaders in the medical community around the world.
Flu, pneumonia vaccines
Beginning Monday, Majoria Drugs, 1805 Metairie Road, Old Metairie, will once again provide flu and pneumonia shots to area residents Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
