Pop power duo Jay-Z and Beyoncé stalked onto the stage to their hit “ ‘03 Bonnie and Clyde” Sunday night, kicking off their much-anticipated concert in New Orleans’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

A short black and white film labeled “On the Run” set the stage.

Then Jay-Z, in black shades and a knit cap, and Beyoncé, in a mesh mask, played the parts of glamorous fugitives, and the Dome, with almost every seat filled, gave them an enthusiastic welcome.

The audience clung to Jay-Z’s rap rhythms as he prowled back and forth, but seemed electrified by Beyonce’s star power and her athletic dance routines.

“On the Run,” the husband-and-wife team’s first joint tour, is a 19-date trek across the United States and Canada that began June 25 at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium. Beyoncé and Jay-Z married April 4, 2008, following six low-key years of dating.
