Deputies seized in three separate arrests from April 2-11 about 9 pounds of marijuana, including more than 6 pounds of which were delivered to the area in packages, and five guns, the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday.

Five people, including New Orleans singer Brett “Weedy” Scipio, were arrested April 3 for allegedly setting up what sheriff’s Maj. Chad Clark called a “drug-trafficking organization” in which they would receive high-grade marijuana, possibly worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, from elsewhere to sell in the parish.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Cannizaro said in a news release that deputies stopped Scipio, 30, 3612 Despaux Drive, Chalmette, and Kevin Miller, 32, no address available, Gretna, and found 5 pounds of “potent” marijuana, worth about $45,000, that had been delivered from Oakland, Calif., and one handgun in the car, Cannizaro said. Scipio’s two children were also in the car.

Scipio and Miller were booked into St. Bernard Parish Prison on counts of possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance in the presence of juveniles.

Scipio was released on a $37,000 bond, Cannizaro said.

The marijuana was delivered to Levi Arnold, 26, 303 E. Liberaux St., Chalmette, Cannizaro said. Arnold was booked with possession with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm while in possession of the marijuana after deputies found a handgun near a small amount of marijuana at Arnold’s house, Cannizaro said.

The other two people arrested, Robert Williams, 30, and Naticole January, 27, both of Chalmette, were booked with possession with intent to distribute, not for the 5 pounds, but for the 1.5 ounces of marijuana deputies found at their house, Cannizaro said.

Deputies also arrested two men in a similar case in which “high-grade” marijuana, worth about $15,000, was delivered to Chalmette, Cannizaro said.

Deputies booked Drew Irby, 26, 2101 Rosetta Drive, on April 2 after deputies found three handguns, 1.6 pounds of marijuana, 95 Xanax pills and 13 hydrocodone pills, Cannizaro said.

Deputies booked Irby with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute Xanax, possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone tablets and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance, Cannizaro said.

Three days later, his father, Tyrone Irby, 56, 2101 Rosetta Drive, was arrested for alleged possession with intent to distribute marijuana, Cannizaro said.

The father was released on a $25,000 bond, and the son was released on a $140,000 bond, Cannizaro said.

The third arrest involved a St. Bernard man deputies confronted after he pulled into the rear of a bank on West Bernard Highway after the bank had closed for the night, Cannizaro said.

Deputies stopped Martin Robin III, 33, of Florissant, who cooperated and told deputies he had 2 pounds of marijuana at his house, Cannizaro said.

He was booked with possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, after deputies found 2.6 pounds of marijuana and $408 in cash in his car and house, Cannizaro said.
