New Orleans police arrested a 38-year-old man Friday in the stabbing death of his girlfriend.

Christopher Hutsell, who authorities said had been homeless, was booked with second-degree murder after refusing to answer any questions about the killing, police said.

The stabbing happened about 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot of McDonalds at 3025 Elysian Fields Avenue. Hutsell and his girlfriend were “involved in a verbal altercation that quickly escalated,” police said.

“Moments later, Hutsell produced an unknown object and stabbed the victim in the neck,” said Frank Robertson, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman, in a news release.

Hutsell allegedly fled the scene but was later spotted in the 2400 block of Elysian Fields.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where she later died. Police said the unidentified woman also was homeless.
