N.O. police report four shootings Sunday
Four shootings were reported in New Orleans over about 12 hours Sunday, according to police.
In the first incident, an 18-year-old man was shot in the foot in the French Quarter about 1 a.m. After police responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Decatur Street, they found two weapons in the area. They were later informed that the victim had been taken to a hospital.
About three hours later, a man in his 50s was shot in the back in the 5800 block of Read Boulevard in New Orleans East. Officers found the man in a car suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived on the scene. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Then, shortly before noon, a 17-year-old man arrived at a New Orleans hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the groin. He told police he had been shot in Central City when someone in a vehicle occupied by strangers fired at him several times. There was confusion about where the shooting occurred. The latest release from the NOPD placed it at Second and South Roman streets.
About an hour later, police said, a woman was driving in the same neighborhood when a bullet came through her windshield, giving her a graze wound above her eye. She was on Magnolia Street near Felicity Street when she was shot. Police said they didn’t know where the shot came from.
Man arrested after crashing stolen car
A man was arrested Saturday night after he crashed a stolen car into two different vehicles and then attempted to flee on foot, New Orleans police said.
Ralph Pierre, 23, was driving riverbound in the 1600 block of South Carrollton Avenue about 7 p.m. when he struck a moving car in the rear. The crash caused the stolen car to lose a wheel, at which point Pierre lost control of it and hit a parked car in the same block.
Pierre fled on foot, but New Orleans police and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies set up a perimeter and spotted him on a nearby rooftop.
At that point, the New Orleans Fire Department was called in to help reach Pierre with a long ladder, but he escaped.
Eventually, he was apprehended in a dumpster behind a building in the 1400 block of South Carrollton Avenue.
The driver of the moving car Pierre crashed into wasn’t hurt, police said.
The NOPD said it originally learned about the stolen car from the JPSO. The Sheriff’s Office discovered the car through its license plate reader and notified New Orleans police when the car entered Orleans Parish.
Police said the vehicle Pierre was driving had been reported stolen in New Orleans on Oct. 9.

New Orleans police said the man was stabbed in the 1900 block of Elizardi Boulevard about 9:30 p.m.
He was privately transported to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
