New Orleans police are investigating the death of a man whose neck became lodged in a wrought-iron fence in Mid-City.

The bizarre incident was discovered about 7 a.m. Thursday when a pedestrian spotted the 58-year-old man in the area of Tulane and Carrollton avenues. It was not immediately clear whether foul play was involved, and authorities were also investigating to determine whether any traffic incidents had occurred in the area.

Detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses and clues.

Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse deemed the death unclassified pending an autopsy, said Garry Flot, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman.
