The man gunned down Monday on a porch in the Pigeon Town neighborhood has been identified by Orleans Parish Coroner Jeffrey Rouse as Lloyd Cargo, 37.
Rouse said Cargo died of a gunshot wound.
New Orleans police spokesman Officer Garry Flot said officers responding to the scene found Cargo lying on the porch around 1:25 p.m. on Monday in the 1600 block of Gen. Ogden Street. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Cargo was remembered by one acquaintance on the scene as a longtime area resident who had been out drinking at a neighborhood bar just the night before. His death spurred angry residents to decry the lack of police presence in the area.
Homicide Detective Ryan Vaught is in charge of the case and can be reached at (504) 658-5300.
