A motorcyclist was fatally injured Sunday in a crash on Interstate 10 eastbound in Kenner.

The accident occurred about 11:45 a.m. at the Loyola Drive exit.

According to the Kenner Police Department, a 2014 white Ford Focus, driven by a 68-year-old Hammond man, appeared to be exiting onto Loyola Drive when it merged back into the right lane and into the path of an eastbound 2006 Harley-Davidson driven by Edwin L. Fortier III, 52, of Metairie.

The motorcycle struck the rear of the car and Fortier was fatally injured. He died at the scene.

Fortier was wearing a helmet, but it was not certified by the Department of Transportation, Kenner police said.

Driver impairment “does not appear to be a factor” in the crash, Kenner police said. They said the unnamed driver of the Ford Focus passed an intoxilyzer test.

No criminal charges have been filed. The matter will be forwarded to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office for review.

Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser urged anyone who witnessed the crash to call traffic investigator Jacob Tolpi at (504) 712-2425.
