The Environmental Studies School of the National Garden Clubs and the Louisiana Garden Club Federation has concluded, with 16 participants becoming NGC consultants and four becoming NGC master consultants.

The school was organized into two four-day sessions in August 2013 and June 2014. About 73 garden club members from Louisiana participated, along with nine from three other states. The school was held in the town of Jean Lafitte, which sponsored it along with the Better Swamps and Garden Club.

Joe and Cindy Baucum, president and treasurer of the Better Swamps and Garden Club, secured facilities and services for the school, recruited instructors, registered students and arranged field trips.

National Garden Clubs Inc. holds environmental studies courses year-round to teach environmental literacy to protect and conserve the Earth. Particular emphasis is placed on land conservation, water conservation and air quality.
