As part of the P.3 Reads program, Prospect New Orleans and the New Orleans Public Library present Keith Calhoun and Chandra McCormick in conversation with Kalamu ya Salaam. The artists will share how Salaam has inspired their practice. The documentary provides a rare look into the lives of two middle-class black families as they navigate the ups and downs of parenting and educating their sons.

POETRY SLAM: Do you know a teen who loves poetry and wants to learn more about it from some of New Orleans’ best slam poets? Michael “Quess”? Moore, Sam Gordon and Mwende Katwiwa, New Orleans slam poets and educators, will present a poetry reading and workshop for teens from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Alvar Library.
