Police arrest man after armed robbery

New Orleans police arrested a man Friday afternoon just minutes after, they said, he committed an armed robbery in Algiers.

Joshua Landers, 26, robbed a 47-year-old man in an apartment complex, according to police spokesman Officer Frank Robertson.

The victim said he was leaving a friend’s apartment in the 3400 block of Garden Oaks Drive about 2:30 p.m. when Landers approached him with a gun.

Landers ordered him back in the apartment, put the gun to his head and told him, “Give me what you got,” Robertson said.

The victim handed over his wallet and $200.

Sgt. James Kelly and Officers Rodney Brown, Pat Guidry and Quineccia Booker were in the area doing narcotics patrols. They heard a description of the robber over the police radio and stopped Landers while he was walking in the area.

The victim identified Landers as the man who had robbed him. Police said the man’s wallet was found in the immediate area.

Landers was booked at Central Lockup with one count each of aggravated burglary and use of a firearm during a robbery.

Suspect sought for drugstore shoplifting

New Orleans police are asking the public to help find a 44-year-old man wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident Thursday.

Honore Jackson is wanted for allegedly stealing from a Walgreens store in the 1800 block of St. Charles Avenue, according to Officer Frank Robertson.

Police said Jackson walked into the store about 10:40 a.m. and began placing items in a large red duffel bag. He then walked out without paying, taking nearly $500 in stolen merchandise.

A store employee saw Jackson get into a dark-colored pickup truck waiting for him in the parking lot, Robertson said. The employee said he recognized Jackson from prior shoplifting incidents.

The truck was last seen fleeing northbound on Felicity Street.

Once apprehended, Jackson will be booked with theft and possession of stolen property, police said.

Man robbed Algiers store at gunpoint

A masked man robbed a Murphy Oil store in Algiers at gunpoint Friday morning, New Orleans police said.

A man wearing a white hockey mask entered the store about 8:30 a.m., pulled out a revolver and demanded money, cigarettes and other items.

Police said a 33-year-old woman and a 40-year-old woman were working in the store in the 3900 block of Behrman Place.

The man was seen fleeing in a black car headed southbound on Behrman. No one was injured.

Police investigating shooting on Broadway

New Orleans police are investigating a shooting that happened Friday evening at Broadway and Forshey Street.

A 19-year-old man was approached about 5:55 p.m. by another man who opened fire on him, police said.

Irish Channel man robbed in home invasion

A 76-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint about 9 p.m. Friday when two men invaded his home in the Irish Channel, New Orleans police said.

According to Officer Garry Flot, the two men entered the rear door of the house in the 700 block of Eighth Street, pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money.

He complied and the two men fled with the cash.

Man robbed at gunpoint in the 7th Ward

A man was robbed at gunpoint Friday night in the 7th Ward, according to New Orleans police.

Officer Garry Flot said the man was sitting on his car in the 1600 block of North Roman Street about 11:30 p.m. when another man approached him.

Flot said the robber, armed with a gun, demanded the keys to the man’s car. The victim threw him the keys and the robber fled in his car.

Two robbed at gunpoint in Central City

Two men were robbed at gunpoint Friday night, New Orleans police said.

The two victims, ages 34 and 38, were in the 2700 block of Baronne Street about 6 p.m. when they were approached by a man riding a bicycle, according to police.

The man pulled out a gun and demanded the victims hand over their property. They complied, and the robber fled.

Man robs discount store on Claiborne Ave.

Police are investigating the armed robbery Friday night of a Discount Corner store in Uptown New Orleans.

A man wearing a white mask and holding a gun entered the store in the 8700 block of South Claiborne Avenue about 11 p.m., police said.

The man pointed a gun at a 65-year-old man and demanded that he open the register. He complied, and the robber jumped over the counter, took the cash from the drawer and fled.

Police said a 22-year-old man also was in the store.
