The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office on Monday arrested a man accused of fatally shooting two men and wounding a third man Sunday night in Harvey.

The suspect, 27-year-old Dartanya Spottsville, faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count each of attempted first-degree murder and illegally carrying a concealed weapon, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato said.

Spottsville is accused of killing Johnell Ovide, 23, of Harvey, and Trammell Marshall, 21, of Marrero. An unidentified 23-year-old was left in critical condition.

The triple shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Apache Drive.

Ovide died at the scene, and Marshall died after being rushed to Interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans for treatment, Fortunato said.

The third victim was in critical condition at the same hospital on Monday.

The Sheriff’s Office announced it had obtained warrants to arrest Spottsville on various criminal counts Monday morning, and he surrendered Monday afternoon.

Spottsville already was on probation in Jefferson Parish for possession of heroin before he was taken into custody Monday, and he has prior arrests for disturbing the peace, simple battery, theft, domestic abuse, narcotics violations and numerous traffic offenses, Fortunato said.

The Sheriff’s Office did not provide any details about a motive in the shooting that left Ovide and Marshall dead.

It was one of several incidents that made for a particularly violent weekend in the New Orleans area.

Aside from the New Orleans police officer killed by a suspect whom he was taking to jail, a 27-year-old man was found shot dead inside a pickup in Algiers, a woman was found dead inside a burned car in New Orleans East and a 40-year-old man was shot to death in the Lower 9th Ward.
