The New Orleans Asian-American Lions Club is ready to make its mark in the community, having received its charter Oct. 19. The new club was sponsored by the Jefferson Lions Club.
Jefferson Parish President John Young and Sally Ann Roberts of WWL-TV were special guests at the chartering ceremony at the Jefferson Lions Home.
“I am proud to welcome these men and women into Lions. Louisiana will be proud to have such a fine group serving their community,” said Maranda Trahan, Lions district governor.
Lions clubs are groups of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs. The New Orleans Asian-American Lions Club will be involved with vision, medical and dental screenings, agricultural and environmental projects, and fundraising to assist overseas missions.
The New Orleans Asian-American Lions Club meets on the first Sunday of the month at the Jefferson Lions Home, 2920 Arlington St., Jefferson.

- “Celebration of Life” in memory of deceased teacher Marites Negre, sponsored by Friends of Marites who are teachers in New Orleans Parish, Jefferson Parish, and Plaquemines Parish. Friday, Nov. 21, 6 p.m. Jefferson Lions Home, 2920 Arlington St., Jefferson.
- Dinner Dance 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, Jefferson Lions Home, 2920 Arlington St.
- “A Time to Remember” for the services of PCC Jack and PDG Peggy Wallace. Sponsored by New Orleans Asian American Lions Club and New Orlean Filipino American Lions Club.
- NOAALC Christmas party for family, friends, and community, 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 at the Jefferson Lions Home.
The club will also be collecting in December for the Feed the Hungry Project. Beneficiary are Boys Town of Louisiana, New Orleans.
