The St. Mary’s Academy graduation ceremony was May 12 in Austin Gymnasium. The commencement speaker was Toya Barnes Teamer, vice president for student success at Dillard University.
The valedictorians of the Class of 2016 are Brittany Bush and Erica Hall. The salutatorian was Brionna George. Bush, daughter of Richard and Patricia Bush, of New Orleans, earned the highest-average awards in mathematics, science, English, computer and physical education. She was vice president of the Student Council. She will attend Xavier University of Louisiana and major in pharmacy. Hall, daughter of Deborah Hall of New Orleans, earned the highest average awards in religion, English, French and social studies. She was a member of the SMA cheerleading squad. She will attend Xavier University and major in pharmacy.
George, daughter of Diane and Joseph George, of New Orleans, was an active member of the SMA Cougarettes, Key Club and National Honor Society. She will attend The University of Southern Mississippi and major in dance.
Honor students: Anjelle Jones, Mia Petty, Ashley Celestine, Selvanna Logan, Vinisa Howard, Jaylen Matthew, Alexis Scott and Taylor Encalarde.
