Families of deceased officers joined law enforcement officers and other neighbors for the annual St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office memorial program, held May 18 at Regala Gym in Reserve.
Sheriff Mike Tregre told the audience he views officers as both guardians and warriors. “We are guardians all of the time until it’s time to become warriors,” he said. “The trouble with the laws these days is that criminals know their rights better than they know their wrongs. … It is the courage and spirit of our fallen officers that allows us to carry on. It is that spirit that brought us together today.”
Speaker Jay Dardenne, Louisiana commissioner of administration, said he and many other citizens of Louisiana appreciate the service of law enforcement and always will remember those officers who lost their lives with honor and dignity to help others.
Local officers the Sheriff’s Office pledges to remember are: Constable Ignace Rousselle, Deputy Harry Troxlair Sr., detective Sherman Walker, Deputy Barton Granier, Code Enforcement Officer Edmond Songy Jr., Capt. Octavio Gonzalez, Deputy Brandon Nielsen and Deputy Jeremy Triche.
