ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS CONTEST: Three Patrick F. Taylor Academy for Science & Technology students have been named winners in the Louisiana Environmental Education Commission’s 12th Environmental Awareness Art and Language Contest. The theme of the contest was “Watersheds, From My Back Yard to the Ocean.”
The three students all won in the art category, with Eduardo Paternostro winning first place in Group 3 (contestants ages 11-13), Maryann Yacoub winning first place in Group 4 (contestants ages 14-18) and Madeleine Brown winning second place in Group 4. Prizes include $200 for first place and $100 for second place.
As this year’s Group 4 art category winner, Yacoub will receive an additional $200 award in memory of Barbara Wyatt Dupree, an artist, arts educator, and a member of the Louisiana Art and Artists’ Guild, who died in February at age 89.
