A memorial service will be held Monday for a New Orleans Fire Department captain who died this week after falling ill during a training course in New Mexico.

The service for Capt. Troy Magee will begin at 2 p.m. at Celebration Church, 2001 Airline Drive, Metairie. Visitation will begin at noon, the Fire Department said.

A funeral procession after the service will pass in front of Squad 7, 1441 St. Peter St., where Magee was stationed.

He will be buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Ave.

Magee, a 13-year NOFD veteran, died Sunday in Socorro, New Mexico.

“Capt. Magee’s knowledge, professionalism and most importantly his character exemplified what it means to be a firefighter,” Superintendent Tim McConnell said in a prepared statement.

Earlier this year, Magee received the Mayor’s Outstanding Employee Award for rescuing a victim from a car crash on Interstate 10 near Baton Rouge while off duty.
