Friends, family and colleagues of Vernell Brown Jr. will gather at the 6th District Police Station on Thursday night for a prayer memorial in honor of the New Orleans police officer who died after being hit by a car on the Pontchartrain Expressway.
The memorial will be at 7 p.m. at the station, 1930 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Police said the event is open to members of the public, who are encouraged to attend.
Brown’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater St. Stephen’s Full Gospel Baptist Church, 5600 Read Blvd. in New Orleans East. That service also will be open to the public.
