Ten Jefferson Parish teens participated in the annual State 4-H University in late June on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. More than 1,450 4-H members from across Louisiana spent several days in Baton Rouge participating in state level competition or receiving intensive training in selected subject areas, such as nutrition, forensics and fashion. Participants also celebrated the 100th birthday of the statewide event.

Jefferson Parish participants were Matthew Victoriano and Nicholas Victoriano, from Fisher Middle/High School; McKaela Mesa, from East Jefferson High School; Kaori Keyser, from Riverdale High School; Laura Melancon, from De la Salle High School; Jake LeBlanc, Laura Smith, and Marilyn Pati, from Patrick Taylor Academy; Nerrie Borne, from Word of Life Academy; and Mailbox Member Hailey Castiglione.

Kaori Keyser won the state blue ribbon for photography. McKaela Mesa and Keyser served as voting delegates from Jefferson Parish. Laura Melancon completed her term as shooting sports ambassador.
