A police pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Louisa Street in the Upper 9th Ward ended in a crash into a school bus Wednesday morning, New Orleans police said.

Officers spotted a gold Chevy SUV near Chef Menteur Highway and Louisa about 7 a.m. The SUV had been reported stolen earlier.

Police gave chase, and the SUV made it to North Robertson and Louisa before crashing into a school bus. No children were on the bus and the driver was not injured, but the two women inside the allegedly stolen vehicle were hurt.

Police said the injuries were not life-threatening, but a witness said a woman inside the vehicle called out to her for help.

The badly damaged SUV was strewn with blood and glass on the inside.

Officer Frank Robertson said the occupants of the SUV could be booked when they are released from the hospital.
