City Year New Orleans was recently celebrated as the opening day ceremony to mark the start of AmeriCorps members’ year of service.
It was held at Samuel J. Green Charter School in New Orleans.
AmeriCorps members will work in New Orleans high-need schools helping students at risk of dropping out get back on track to graduate.
During the ceremony, corps members stood in their signature red jackets that signify their membership in the corp, and collectively took the City Year pledge and the national AmeriCorps pledge of service. City Year begins the year in which they dedicate their lives to making a difference for local children and their communities.
Keynote speakers at the event included Cheryl Landrieu and Jay Altman.
