A man suspected of stabbing his brother to death and leaving him at East Jefferson General Hospital early Thursday morning has surrendered to authorities.

Police believe 27-year-old Gary Nunenmacher killed his brother, 22-year-old Ryan Nunenmacher of River Ridge, by stabbing him in the chest.

Jefferson Parish Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich said Ryan died of a single stab wound to the heart.

The elder Nunenmacher then dropped his brother off at the hospital emergency room around 12:11 a.m. and fled on foot, police said.

Gary Nunenmacher turned himself in to his attorney Thursday morning. He was taken into custody by members of the US Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and booked at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

Court records show that Gary Nunenmacher had a pending case for marijuana possession with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm with a controlled substance.

Nunenmacher’s booking photo shows a black left eye. His lawyer, Brigid Collins, confirmed that he had it when he turned himself in.

“When all is said and done and everything comes out, everyone will know that Gary would never want to harm his brother, and didn’t intend to harm his brother with this incident,” Collins said.
