City Year New Orleans organized a day of service Jan. 18 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event brought 206 volunteers from more than 30 organizations to Langston Hughes Academy for beautification projects including interior painting and outdoor murals. They also helped prepare the school grounds for a future playground and planted 40 trees around the school.

City Year is a national organization that unites teams of young people for a year of service in high-need urban schools.
