New Orleans native Richard Simmons recently addressed speculation, fueled by tabloid reports, that he was transitioning to a woman, calling those reports “lies.”

“Some tabloids have recently falsely reported that I am transitioning. In response, I feel compelled to set the record straight and refute those lies,” Simmons wrote on his Facebook page Tuesday. “Although I am not transitioning, I have and always will be supportive of those who are going through their journey.”

Simmons was hospitalized earlier this month for dehydration, and tabloid reports circulated that the fitness instructor was being held against his well at his home and undergoing a gender transition, USA Today reported.

In his Facebook post, Simmons also urged people to show “love, strength and compassion to all of the LGBT community” in the wake of the Orlando shootings.

“My broken heart and healing thoughts are with the people of Orlando and all other victims of prejudice, bigotry and hate,” he wrote.
