As part of an international event, 100 Thousand Poets for Change New Orleans will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Zeitgeist Multidisciplinary Arts Center, 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Tickets are $5 at the door.

There will be performances by Valentine Pierce, Still Rising, Frank Xteele, Gamma Flowers, Jessica Bordelon, Dennis Formento, Dam DaBeginning, Nikki Radicalone and Julie Whitbeck. Speakers include Dedric West, of Rae House, and Tracy Moore Riley, of Rouge House.

The idea for 100TPC began in 2011 when poets, musician and artists joined to encourage peace and sustainability through live performances around the globe. Each area creates its own event, and this year, there will be performances by 100K Mimes in Cairo; “Fugitive Flags” displayed to welcome refugees in Vienna; and a slam poetry workshop in India.

Formento recently attended the 100TPC World Conference in Salerno, Italy. He is helping to organize the New Orleans event and, also this year, 100K Poets for Change Northshore which will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, at St. John’s Coffeehouse in Covington. For information, email Formento at mesechabe@hotmail.com.
