OPERATION COMFORT: Patients at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans were the first to benefit from Operation Comfort, a project of Victoria’s Secret model Erin Heatherton and The Northwest, a company that makes comfort products such as blankets and pillows.

Heatherton visited the sick children on the oncology floor and made over their rooms with blankets, pillows and bedding featuring their favorite sports teams and entertainment characters.

Based on the success of that initial experience, The Northwest plans to expand Operation Comfort to other hospitals and military bases throughout the year, enabling people to be comfortable wherever they are.

MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION: A Burger King franchisee with 288 restaurants in Louisiana and seven other states has raised $154,000 to benefit children and adults affected by muscle disease across its markets.

Throughout February, Strategic Restaurants Acquisitions restaurants sold $1 green and $5 gold paper shamrock mobiles that were signed by the purchasers and prominently displayed in each store.

Funds raised through 2014 shamrock sales will help send area children affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases to Muscular Dystrophy Association summer camp. The program also helps to support MDA’s worldwide research program and national network of 200 medical clinics.
