A second person has drowned in Grand Isle this week, according to a report.

The body of Diogenes Zuniga was found off the beach shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, Grand Isle Police Chief Euris DeBois and Jefferson Parish Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich confirmed to WWL-TV.

Zuniga drowned trying to get out of the water while holding his 9-year-old son, WWL reported. A woman told officers that he was trying to get out of the Gulf of Mexico when she went over and took the child.

She safely got the boy to the beach, but Zuniga did not resurface, WWL reported.

The Coast Guard searched for Zuniga Tuesday night and discovered his body Wednesday.

On Sunday, a Mississippi woman died of an apparent drowning after being hit by a wave off Grande Isle, Cvitanovich said. She was also swimming with her son.
