Commencement exercises for the sixth graduating class of Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies were held May 9 at the Alario Center in Westwego.

The valedictorian was Jessica Ding, daughter of Donald Ding and Mary Zhang. She is a National Merit finalist, a U.S. Presidential Scholar semifinalist, a National AP Scholar and scored a perfect 36 on the ACT. In the fall she will attend Harvard University to major in molecular and cellular biology.

The salutatorian was Adam Strickland, son of Adam Strickland and Tara Zaabel. This fall he plans to attend Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore to major in chemical and bio-molecular engineering.
