A man drove off the side of an Algiers bridge Friday, plunged about 200 feet in his car and sustained only minor injuries, New Orleans police said.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. Police said the man was driving his Chevrolet AVEO westbound over the Woodland Bridge when he attempted to pass vehicles in front of him and overcorrected, causing him to drive off the side of the bridge.

The car fell an estimated 200 feet and landed at Woodland Drive and Tullis Drive, police said.

The man's injuries were only minor, police said. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
