New Orleans has had eight fire-related fatalities from Nov. 11 to Feb. 1, and none of these homes had a working smoke alarm. In light of the fatalities, the New Orleans Fire Department has launched a campaign to install smoke alarms in every home in need within Orleans Parish.

The NOFD provides and installs free 10-year smoke alarms for any resident of Orleans Parish. Any resident in need of assistance should contact the NOFD’s community relations office at (504) 658-4714 or www.nola.gov/nofd.
