Cold, rainy weather has scuttled two holiday traditions set for Friday evening, Metairie’s Holiday in the Park and Kenner’s Christmas Village in Rivertown.

Kenner will monitor the weather, but said forecasts suggest festivities at Rivertown could be able to resume Saturday and Sunday. A spokeswoman for Jefferson Parish said the same was true for the annual event at Lafrenier Park in Metairie.

“I hate to cancel even one day of Christmas Village, particularly because of the crowds we have been seeing so far,” Kenner Mayor Mike Yenni said in a news release. “But hopefully everyone can delay their plans by a day or two and head out to Christmas Village on Saturday or Sunday.”

Christmas Village offers holiday lighting, a Santa available for photos, food and entertainment. It runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the first three weekends of December.

Holiday in the Park is open from dusk to 11:45 p.m. on weekends and dusk to 9:45 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Admission is $3 per vehicle.
