A WWL-TV report on the 20th anniversary of devastating floods in the metro New Orleans area includes a broadcast report by Channel 4’s then-anchor Bill Elder, who starts out the piece this way: “By all accounts, we knew that it was coming. We just didn’t know how bad it would be.”

In addition to flooding, the May 8, 1995, weather event included wind damage, at Lakefront Airport, and an apparent tornado in in Slidell. Seven deaths were directly linked to the flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
