Masked man shoots, kills one in St. Roch

A masked man ran onto the porch of a home Friday morning and shot a man to death, New Orleans police said.

The 32-year-old victim, whose identity was withheld pending notification of family, was killed about 4 a.m. in the 2200 block of North Derbigny Street in the St. Roch neighborhood.

Witnesses told police the victim and several other people were sitting on the porch of a home when the gunman ran up and opened fire.

The victim was struck several times. He ran to the 1700 block of Mandeville Street before he collapsed and died alongside another home, police said.

Police reported no other injuries.

Four wounded in three separate shootings

Four people were wounded in three separate shootings Friday in New Orleans.

A 52-year-old man was shot in the leg about 2:15 a.m. in the 900 block of North Rampart Street. His injury was not life-threatening, police said.

A 30-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the head and a bullet wound to the back, and a 20-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder about 3 p.m. in the 12300 block of the south Interstate 10 Service Road in New Orleans East.

A man, whose age was not available, was shot about 6 p.m. near Berkley Drive and Pittari Place in Algiers. His injury was not serious.

NOPD seeks man for questioning in homicide

New Orleans police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man who might have information about a five-year-old murder.

Detectives want to speak with Steve Smith, 26, about the fatal shooting of David Handy.

Handy, 19, was shot Sept. 12, 2009, in the 7700 block of Mullet Street in New Orleans East.

Smith is not a suspect.
