A social skills group for girls ages 8 to 13 that begins Wednesday in Metairie offers young women an opportunity to learn skills to handle peer pressure, bullying and how to create positive friendships.

Girl Power, offered from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Jewish Family Service, 3300 W. Esplanade Ave., Suite 603, aims to develop increased self-confidence and feelings of self-worth, discover strategies to communicate feelings, make positive choices and cope with stress and anxiety.

The group is nondenominational and open to members of all faiths. It will meet Wednesdays through May 18. The fee is $240.
