A St. Rose woman was booked for vehicular homicide after a Thursday night crash that claimed the life of LaPlace man Wellman Joseph.
State Police spokeswoman Trooper First Class Melissa Matey said that Darla Gauthreaux, 29, struck Joseph, 55, with her 2012 Nissan while driving west on LA 636-3 near Water Plant Road in LaPlace. Joseph was thrown off his bicycle and died on the scene. Gauthreaux fled the scene, police said, but a family member told the St. John Sheriff’s Office about the crash.
Gauthreaux has been arrested for vehicular homicide, felony hit and run and DWI. She is being held at the St. John Parish jail.
