Two men sleeping in the abandoned Oretha Castle Haley Elementary School at Franklin Avenue and North Robertson Street reported being attacked by a group of 15 to 20 masked assailants, New Orleans police said Tuesday.
They said the assault occurred about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday. Both men said they were asleep when the attackers entered the school and stabbed them. Both men were taken to a hospital.
Police were not able to offer any further details on the attack.
The old elementary school, damaged in Hurricane Katrina, has been known as a home for squatters for years. It is adjacent to the Press Street rail yards. The School Board sold the building to a developer in 2013.
