Police are searching for a man who fired two shots near Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington on Monday.
The shooter took a weapon out of its wrapping and fired two shots before leaving, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain told reporters at the scene. Strain said the shooter did not reach the hospital.
One witness said the shooter fired two shots from a narrow wooded strip between the hospital and nearby office buildings. The shooter was described as a heavyset white male in heavy clothing. Police had recovered a shotgun shell from the scene.
Both St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s deputies and Louisiana State Police were part of a large police presence at the scene.
The hospital was briefly placed on lockdown Monday afternoon as heavily armed officers and K-9 units searched for the shooter.
There were no reports of injuries.
