Man killed Friday in Orleans hit-and-run
A man was fatally injured early Friday morning in a hit-and-run car accident, according to Officer Hilal Williams, a spokeswoman for the New Orleans Police Department.
She said the accident happened about 2 a.m. at North Claiborne and Orleans avenues.
The man was pronounced dead at a hospital at 6 a.m., according to John Gagliano, chief investigator for the Coroner’s Office. Gagliano said the man’s identity has yet to be determined.
According to Williams, no arrests have been made, and police have no suspects in the incident.
Boater’s body found in Belle Chasse
The body of a missing boater was found near the Hero Canal in Belle Chasse on Thursday, according to a statement from the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Edward J. Cortez, 57, disappeared Wednesday after a day of boating. A short time later, authorities found his unoccupied boat about 1,000 feet away from the launch.
Sheriff’s Office personnel searched for Cortez until 1:20 a.m. Friday, the statement said. They resumed their efforts at 6 a.m. and found his body around 2:20 p.m., close to where his boat was found.
No trauma to the body was noted, according to the statement.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Saturday to determine the cause and manner of death.
