Authorities late Wednesday recovered the body of an unidentified man in the Mississippi River.
The body, which was found behind Jax Brewery near St. Peter and Decatur streets, was spotted about 11:30 p.m. and retrieved from the water by the New Orleans Fire Department.
The Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy. The body had not been identified Thursday evening.
New Orleans police said earlier this week that a 42-year-old man had disappeared while swimming in the river Tuesday evening.
The swimmer, Dave Hebron, was last seen in the river near St. Peter and Decatur streets swimming toward the steamboat Natchez’s dock.
The man had recently traveled to New Orleans from Jena in northern Louisiana and had been staying at a homeless shelter here, according to police.
