A free boating safety class will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie. The class lasts between six and eight hours.

The course includes information on choosing a boat, classification, hulls, motors, legal and equipment requirements, navigation rules and charts, trailering, sailboats and related subjects that include canoeing, personal watercraft and more.

Completion of the course will result in the student being issued a vessel operators certification card.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is sponsoring the class. Preregistration is not required but is recommended by going to the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website, www.wlf.louisiana.gov.
