The New Orleans Fire Department recently donated $21,070 to the South East Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross to support efforts to provide smoke alarm protection to every home in Orleans Parish.

The Fire Department raised the money during a Boot Shake campaign in March, which is Red Cross Month.

In support of two smoke alarm initiatives, Project: S.A.F.E. and Operation: Save-a-Life, the American Red Cross has donated more than 1,700 10-year smoke alarms and more than 300 9-volt batteries for installation in the homes of Orleans Parish residents.
