Street flooding was reported across the New Orleans area Friday as a wave of storms passed through.

In Metairie, heavy rains caused the roof a breezeway at Lake Lawn funeral home to collapse on some vehicles, damaging them, a photo from WWL producer Lamar Bourgeois showed.

At mid-morning, the University of New Orleans canceled classes for the day because of flooding in the vicinity of the campus. Students on campus were urged to stay until waters receded. Campus remained open, and faculty and staff remained on duty.

Southern University at New Orleans also closed. The last day to drop classes or withdraw from the university has been extended to Monday at 5 p.m.

The annual Festa Italiana in Kenner's Rivertown neighborhood will be delayed from Friday night to Saturday due to inclement weather, city officials announced. Kenner Acting Mayor Mike Sigur, who is a member of the festival's organizing committee, said the decision was solely based on keeping event goers safe.

The festival will open from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Adults pay $5 at the door, while attendance is free from children 12 or younger, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
