Dads looking for a great way to spend Father’s Day weekend with their children can participate in the Knights of Nemesis 10th annual Hook a Kid on Fishing Rodeo set for June 13 and 14 at Campo’s Marina at Shell Beach in eastern St. Bernard.
Registration, $10 for children 11 and younger and $25 for others, opens at 10 a.m. June 14. Participants can launch anywhere, and weigh-in is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. June 14 at Campo’s Marina.
First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded in the children’s division for the following categories: trout, drum, bass, flounder, sheepshead, redfish under 27 inches, redfish over 27 inches and off the dock at Campo’s. The off-the-dock category includes anything that is caught, including shoes and crab nets.
First- and second-place prizes will be given to participants 12 and older in several categories, including flounder, drum, bass, sheepshead, redfish over 27 inches, redfish under 27 inches, big fish and speckled trout. Cash prizes will be given for the five trout stringer and redfish with the most spots. There is a limit of one entry per person, and fish cannot be used in multiple categories.
For $10, nonfishing participants can enjoy food and refreshments. Individuals and businesses can become event sponsors, with sponsorships ranging from $100 to $1,000.

Summer food program
Christian Fellowship Church’s 2014 summer feeding program began June 2 and will run through July 25 at the church, 5816 E. Judge Perez Drive, Violet.
The Summer Food Service Program provides free nutritious meals to St. Bernard Parish residents ages 18 and younger who may not otherwise have access to healthy food when school is out. Meals also are available to persons 18 and older who participate in school programs for people who are mentally or physically challenged.
Breakfast is served at the church Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., and lunch is served from 11 a.m. to noon, with the exception of July 4.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church will hold a crafts fair Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. inside the church’s cottage and in the parking lot at 2621 Colonial Blvd., Violet.
The crafts fair will feature more than 30 vendors, an inflatable for the children and refreshments, including hamburgers and hot dogs.

Vacation Bible school
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church will hold its vacation Bible school June 23-27 from 9 a.m. to noon in the church’s cottage, 2621 Colonial Blvd., Violet.

Jimmy’s Kids fundraiser
Chalmette Winn-Dixie shoppers will have a chance to help a good cause while they do their grocery shopping this weekend.
Jimmy’s Kids, a group for mentally and physically challenged children and adults in St. Bernard Parish, is holding a fundraiser Saturday to help pay for members to visit the Audubon Zoo and the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas.
Members of Jimmy’s Kids will hand out stuffed animals to children who visit the Winn-Dixie, 3300 Paris Road, between 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. During those hours, shoppers can make monetary donations to the group. Donations, made payable to Jimmy’s Kids, also can be mailed to or dropped off at 1201 Camille Place, Chalmette, LA 70043.

The St. Bernard Art Guild will hold its annual open art show Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the St. Bernard Parish government complex council chambers, 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and an awards presentation will take place at 2 p.m.
Participation is open to anyone age 18 and older. The cost is $5 per entry for Art Guild members and $10 per piece for others. Artists may join the St. Bernard Art Guild at the show for $25.
Categories include art under glass, art not under glass, photography and three-dimensional. A representative from Chalmette Refining LLC will present a Best of Show Award and a $125 cash prize. Other cash prizes will be given for first-, second- and third-place winners. Ribbons for honorable mention and an artists’ choice award will be presented, and specialty awards will go to other themed entries. All entries must be the original creation of the artist entering.
Well-known Louisiana artist Tami Curtis-Ellis will judge the show.
