One person was killed and another was wounded in shootings Saturday night at the Garden Oaks apartments in Algiers, New Orleans Police said on Sunday.

About 11 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a shooting at the apartments, 3300 Garden Oaks Drive, Algiers. One of the victims was lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

The other victim, a 24-year-old man who was shot in the chest, was taken to a hospital.

Police are withholding the names of both victims pending notification of family members, Officer Hilal Williams said in the release.

Investigators are gathering evidence and information to identify who is responsible for the shootings, as well as motive.
