IRISH FUNDRAISER: The Rose of Tralee party, Jan. 13, at 1100 City Park Ave., features festive drinks, appetizers and entertainment by pianist Amassa Miller and harpist Luke Berger.

The fundraiser will help a local young lady of Irish descent, to be chosen next year, to compete in the International Rose of Tralee Festival in Ireland.

OMV OFFICE CLOSES: The Louisiana Department of Public Safety closed the Algiers office of the Office of Motor Vehicles in the Crescent City Connection complex on Dec. 28.

The services that were being provided by the Algiers office will be met by existing offices in Harvey and Westwego.

Further expansion and improvements in the Gretna and New Orleans area are under way with the February opening of a new OMV express office on Williams Boulevard in Kenner, and a proposed new office to be located in the New Orleans East area later in 2013.Local offices are located in Westwego at 419 Avenue A, in Harvey at 2150 Westbank Expressway, in Reserve at 4034 W. Airline Highway, in Gramercy at 827 North Pine Street, Suite B and in Metairie at 6701 Airline Highway.


commissioners sought: The Broadmoor Improvement Association is looking for new members for its Board of Commissioners.

The board requires a steady monthly commitment and requires active members who can engage residents and work with the various other Broadmoor entities, such as the Rosa Keller Library & Community Center, Wilson School, Broadmoor Development Corporation and the Education Corridor.
